Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
